Write a brief that is actually personal

Name five things in order: the main subject, the arrangement, one supporting detail, two or three colors you can name, and the intended use. Say what to leave out. A list of animals and metals is not a brief.

Example:

A centered shield with one olive branch for our kitchen table, two small stars, ivory and deep green, a short motto on a simple ribbon, and a classic engraved finish for a framed print. Leave out extra animals and keep the background quiet.

Keep lettering short. AI-generated text can misspell words. Inspect every character before you print a card or ship a frame. Do not “correct” a familiar household name into something that only looks more official. The name on the artwork is decoration, not a title.

If relatives send a historical shield tied to a shared name, treat that as conversation.
